State Trying to Take Away Parents’ Right to Decide on Vaccines

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:43 PM

State Trying to Take Away Parents’ Right to Decide on Vaccines

If pending legislation passes the California State Assembly, parents will be forced to gain permission from medical doctors or school nurses before sending their children to school without certain vaccines.

Currently, parents may send their children to school without vaccines if they file a letter or affidavit stating the immunization is contrary to the family’s beliefs.

Sponsored by a strong advocate of the medical profession, the bill, AB 2109, would take away that decision-making power from parents and hand it to the medical practitioners.  If passed, parents will be required to receive written permission from the doctors or school nurses.  Most often, this will require medical office visits, which must be paid for by the parents.  The parents will also have to explain to the medical professionals why they object to the vaccines.  The proposed bill has rightly angered many parents’ rights groups and others.

“We do not believe doctors or health care workers should be the gatekeepers for what essentially has to do with the parents’ conscientious beliefs,” said Barbara Loe Fisher, co-founder and president of the National Vaccine Information Center.

California activist, Tim O’Shea, who is leading a campaign against AB 2109, said:  “This bill is not just another bad idea…it is the single most radical attack on medical freedom in the history of American jurisprudence.”

Said Timothy Feuling, publisher of The Chiropractic Journal: “People have the right to decide whether or not they want to subject themselves and their children to potentially dangerous and ineffective vaccines.  To prevent children from going to school unless they are injected with a drug or get ‘permission’ from some stranger designated by the government is absurd.  This should not be allowed to happen.”

The argument in favor of the bill, of course, is based on the belief that all vaccines are safe and without them children could become sick and contagious to the other children.  There is much evidence to suggest, however, that not all vaccines are safe for all children.

If you believe that parents should remain free to make this decision on behalf of their own children, please contact the California State Legislature immediately and express your strong opposition to AB 2109.

To find the name and contact information of your Assembly member, go to:  www.Assembly.ca.gov.   For more information on the status of the bill, visit bit.ly/TCJvaccinealert.
